Default M10 Romanian .22 akm receiver

M10 .22 kit, did multiple searches and read all the available threads (that I could find) regarding the receiver. Some use a 74 receiver and some use a 47, some modify/use the lower rails and some shim (the ejector plate).

Any insight on the best/proper receiver type and ejector plate method or is it just personal preference?

As above and go slow and easy when shaping/clearancing the rear of the top rails for that plastic block.

74 receiver is a better fit for the stock mags, but know that you may need to open up the mag well slightly depending on the mags you use (the akt98 mags I have are a little too wide to fit a Morrissey, for instance). I’ve done both ways for the rails, and like the factory method of using the rails vs shimming. Akm receiver is good if you’re looking to modify the German mags

Thanks for all the input.

I also read that someone on AKFiles modded a few EG bakelites (5.45) by removing their guts and replacing with the Romy22's. Might be worth the effort.

I use and prefer akt98 mags.

For them.. A ak magwell is bottlenecked for lack of a better term. The front is 74 width and the rear is more like a 47 width. So just like the .223 cartridge the .22 is based on, the magwell has less "bottleneck" to the magwell than a 74 or 47

The akt mags also fit nicely in a Hungarian tanker pouch

The plastic .22 insert in the mag can be fitted to 74 mags but fit better in .223 mag bodies. The akt mag is just a romy steel .223 or a eg weiger mag body with same insert as the lil 5rd plastic romy .223 body

I've done this, but I fit it to my AKM receivered build and it doesn't sit correctly in my other one. I'm gonna be tearing that one down and rebuilding it on the spare morrisey aks74 receiver I have, so I'll probably adjust that mag whenever I get around to doing that.

I thought the listing was a mistake when I saw it ($200.00 shipped), got it here in the MP. Came with 6 mags, 4 of the OEMs and 2 aftermarket.

All parts were included. I read in several threads that the ejector plate had been missing from a lot of the kits.

It is not threaded, but could be. End of barrel is factory machined for that purpose (I think). OD measures 14mm and the length of machined area is 17mm (rough measurements with a Home Depot digital caliper).

Depending on which method you plan to use to put your barrel back into the trunnion, you may want to wait until last to do your center support rivet!

Just wanted to update: I rebuilt my m10 kit on a 74 receiver, and it's really not a whole lot better than starting with a 7.62 receiver. I used howiebearse's build guide when I built it up the first time, and it went smoothly using an AKM flat. I re-built it as an aks-74 (fuck that front latch, such a pain in the ass this go around) on an old morrisey I had from a build I tore down a while back, and had to open up the magwell at the rear 2/3rds and the very front for the front mag lug. On an akm receiver you'd need to extend the rear or file on the mags to get them to lock in. I will say, modifying regular bolt rails gives a nicer looking finished product than using shims in a blank/flat without rails. Open up the magazine well with a file, then rivet in the front trunnion, then the ejector block (center support rivet). I think there may have been an issue with my mag catch, because even with the longer 74 magazine well the AKT mags didn't wanna rock in until after I trimmed and beveled the catch. Now it's gtg and everything's working right by hand, just gotta take it to the range this week and function test/tune before refinishing it. You got a steal on that kit, and I think you'll like it a lot once you get it all put together.

howiebearse posted to send him an email and he'd send his guide. It might not have gone through or went to spam maybe, I PM'd him this morning after seeing this. I would like to build mine, I sold the last one I had when I needed the funding for something else.

If you don't hear back, shoot me a pm and I'll see if I can dig it up. It was on my old hard drive before that laptop crapped out, but I think I got it over to an external hard drive.

stupid question but where are you finding these kits? I see the completed rifles on GB for 400 to 700. I have one complete rifle I purchased a number of years ago and just missed out on that 200.00 kit

I got mine here a while back, if I'd seen the $200 kit biscuit wouldn't have gotten it lol. They pop up every once in a while, I guess from guys that bought them back when centerfire had them but never got around to building them. I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been more interest in the new chiappa .22's, they look to be about the same as the wasr-22's but I've read they only take the new magazines

Don't mind at all, looks very nice.

I have some 47 blanks, so I will most likely look at using one of those before getting a 74 blank.
