AK build?

Hey guys, I have been recently considered doing an AK74 style build.

I was planning on just buying a stripped receiver and buying a parts kit for everything else.

I am assuming however, that a standard AK parts kit isnt going to come with EVERYTHING im going to need. I.E. I'm thinking that I am going to have to buy the semi auto sear assembly, ect..

I was wondering if I could get some info on if my guess is right and some inexpensive sources for the build.

Thanks in advance!

I'd add www.copesdistributing.net and www.apexgunparts.com to the list of places to look at kits and parts.

After you buy your kit & receiver, you will need your 6 compliance parts & a rivet set. If you buy these from different places you could pay out as much in shipping as you pay for parts.
This guy has every thing you need, but only charges $5.00 for all orders & is a good guy to deal with.

Thanks for the info.

What parts will you need after I have the receiver and parts kit?
Do I still have to install U.S. parts to make it "legal"?

There is a TON of info up top on the stick. the 922 compliance thread pretty much details it. It is the general concensus that you need to have at least six US made parts on the rifle to make it legal. Us reciever is one, the fire control group consisting of hammer, trigger and disconnector is three more. You now need to get two more parts in there. I like to go with a gas piston as one and then you have the option of replacing the muzzle device, the pistol grip, the buttstock or the fore grip to make your six. There are magazine parts that can be counted but I don't like to use those as you have to pay attention to what magazines you use. If you put a US made muzzle device on you can use the factory grips and buttstock.

Search around the forum. You will find info on this hip deep.

The AK47 is a cheap POS designed to be assembled in third world shitholes by a labor force composed of knuckle dragging, booger eating morons. It was then to be handed out to an army of uneducated peasant retards who couldn't find their own ass with both hands and a map. Thats the true genius of the design and why it remains ubiquitous to this day.

same as an akm build. you'll need the u.s. parts. (unless a pistol.) you can use the same ak builder flat.
i was thinking on this myself but i didn't move on it. i didn't want to have to get mags for it and the cheap ammo seems to be drying up.

If you are going to use a receiver flat in the project, make sure to use a dedicated AK74 flat. This will provide the correctly dimensioned mag well opening and the correctly sized ejector rail.
