Removable bipod for AKM
Will a Tantal bipod work on an AKM? I'm not sure of the fit because the barrel diameter may be smaller on a Tantal than on an AKM.
Any suggestions for other removable bipods? I have a nice Polish one with a belt sheath that snaps onto the barrel. I had a simple one over twenty years ago that fit my .22, but I think it was Army surplus for an M16. That would probably be too small to fit an AKM. It sure scratched up the barrel but worked fine.
I just want a bipod I could attach in a hurry and not have it attached to the weapon, like a permanent Harris bipod. The Tantal would be perfect if it fits.

A tantal should work.

SC02, log onto www.gunthings.com and poke around their Kalash=stuff.
They have Tantal bipoos for $22 a flip POB. Was thinking of pulling one in myself.
Thanks for raising the subject.
Best regards !!!

Beware of the inexpensive bipods sold for AK and SKS use. Some need shims (Supplied usually) installed, the ratchets are crappy, (Legs extend under gravity) ratchet springs fall out or bend and the locking mechanism won't lock.
Find a good bipod that you like via hands on and pay the price.

I just bought a new Tantal bipod and four-pouch Tantal belt pouch, with bipod side pouch, at Apex for $10 each. Both items are in new condition. The bipod fits loosely on my AKM, but it will work. Maybe I can beef up the jaws with something that won’t burn when it gets hot, to take up the empty space where the bipod surrounds the barrel base. Maybe something like asbestos cloth, but less toxic.
The pouch holds four mags, an oil bottle and the open-ended side pouch for the bipod has a stud in the top of it to keep the bipod from falling out. The 7.62 x 39 mags fit well into the pouch. It has stout belt loops but no shoulder strap. I may make a shoulder strap for it due to the weight it will carry on my belt.
With shipping both items only set me back $25.

I also saw this basic P38 Flecktarn holster for $10. I don’t own the sidearm though.

I did buy a VZ58 armorer’s chest from them recently though for $300 and $50 shipping. They still have them in stock.
