those cheap little dental cleaning brushes with the stainless wire holding the bristles on that you clean between your teeth with are great for cleaning out little pin holes and things like the bolt . even with the bristles gone there easy to bend to get into tight areas .

I just used one to clean my bolt on a project . been using them for years in the shop .

a tip cleaner for the OXT / ACT torch also works good for stuff like that .

This may be a no-brainer, but a small amount of grease wiped on the surfaces of press interference (i.e. inside of gas block, outside of barrel journal) does wonders for smooth pressing...

Waterbased case sizing lube on press fit journals if you are parking or blueing. Even some water based you know what lube will do too I imagine. They are usually press parts dry from the factories.

The stuck detent thread reminded me
I learned to run a drill in there before assembly so stuck detent doesn’t happen.
It’s amazing how much crap gets in there.

Is there some reason this thread can’t get a sticky?

YOU can build your own AK rifle too. You just need to start by collecting the right/proper AK building tools. You just need to encourage yourself to start.

We have lots of talented members here who are knowledgeable in building AK’s. If you’re stuck during a building process. Just ask. Many of us are willing to share our knowledge.

Make 2019 the year you built your first AK rifle.

Ordered my first kit yesterday from AOA always wanted to do this after several conversions. I guess the barrel fit is the most tedious never done that. I'll be checking in as I run into problems as I'm sure I will.

I didn't want to let this thread die, plenty of good information to be added. timhogan had posted this someplace and I gave it a shot. AKM 26 degree gas port drilled in the .093" range worked out very well for me on a 16" M72 build. Ejection is in the 10-15' range. The gun cycles well and shoots very tame (120 rounds down the pipe on a new build).
Also, if you demill your own, I match the new barrel journal diameter to the stubs. If it feels good pressing the parts apart, going back the other way on the new barrel is about the same.
