Back in the day, I was led to believe GT was the holy grail so I've got a few cases, but after discovering it's possibly the least accurate ammo between all of my AKs and AR, I haven't bought any since. For banging steel it's fine, but there's cheaper options for that. At least Sam let us know he was disappointed the sanctions didn't happen.

So, who would be up for purchasing a couple of these? Pretty cool if I say so myself. The more I order, the cheaper they are. Small batch would be about 25 each plus shipping. I guess I could put them on the market place once i had them made up. If im violating any rules please let me know, just trying to see if there is interest after someone mentioned it

Oh! This one took an ugly turn.
Gotta love the anonymity of the internet.
That said. Don't we ask this question about twice a year?
I know we do every election anymore.
Whatever the reason, it seems like The GT is OS, and we worry about it being gone. Then it reappears, and the conversation turns to "It used to be" whatever.
Our system is designed for the price of everything to increase. We used to call this inflation, now we call it "Growth".
The manufacturer makes a run and the price is calculated from costs plus profit. If the costs "grow" so does the price. If the costs for the distributor "grow" so does the price. No one is "gouging" anyone.
Save maybe the bankers that demand 5-10% of every transaction on the planet.
Rant over
Troll out

Back in the day when Knob Creek was fun to go to every year & bring home enough crates of ammo to flatten the springs in the car, that was a must, So I have plenty of ammo, that said - I had to buy another box of RAS 545x39 to see the difference between it & golden tiger which I know is none. Those $250.00 crates Russian 545x39 were the bomb back in the day.

Has anyone confirmed that the RAS has the same larger air pocket like the GT?

I had ordered new RAS HP (non-fragmenting type) and it has a very deep air pocket. That HP is just FMJ with the tip of the nose cut off. I do not expect to expand or fragment, but it should a bit more accurate than a straight FMJ.

It's the same exact ammo, being made on the same line, even at the same time as GT's order, the only difference is babushka lady #1 is boxing up ammo into a GT box, and Babushka lady #2 is boxing up ammo in a RAS box

Thanks for video, they are actually saying that they are making rounds for millitary with the steel inside vs led core for hunting and export (to us). Also that it is secret contract for some new special highly penetrating 5.45 rounds. Also that Vimpel is the latest factory in Russia for ammo. Babushka means grandma in russian btw

Are you saying RAS HP is better than RAS FMJ? What's the story with the air
Pocket? Projectile are flat or boat tail.

For what it is worth, today I shot 160 rounds of Vympel. 80 was 2007 production GT, and the other 80 was 2018 production RAS. They all went bang, and point of impact was the same. So while I trust my "vintage" GT stash more, the new stuff seems just fine, at least my small sample size.

I sold 500rds of GT this weekend for 100 bucks, just saying. I swear all Ammo shoots about the same to me. Then again I'm not a precision shooter.

I've shot roughly 4,000 rounds of recent production Golden Tiger without incident with the exception that I had a round keyhole at the range last well.

HP ammo, generally speaking, will have a higher ballistic coefficient than FMJ, so it will be more accurate, unless you step up to something like Ballistic Tip, that has a sharp polycarbonate tip. I try to avoid all FMJ bullets for this reason. Way back then, when I did not have kids and "lived" at the shooting range, HP AK ammo was the most accurate of all ammo that I used.
GT ammo has a large air pocket on the front, under the jacket, that moves center of gravity back. That makes bullet less stable, and prone to tumbling, once in target, instead of zipping thru like regular ball ammo.
RAS HP Bullet IS boattailed, same as Golden Tiger.

Hp should be more accurate..fmj (with air pocket) will do more damage. AK hp do not generally expand like handgun hp would. Fmj (with air pocket) should tumble, creating a nasty wound instead of just poking a small hole as it zips through. This is 5.45 7n6's claim to fame.

Whats better? Depends on your priorities.
