Default Attn Skate Rats, Jake Phelps has died.

Some of you old school and some new school skaters can remember who Jake Phelps was, Editor of Thrasher, Always had the mic in his mouth at the shows and was the ring leader at all the events and gatherings. A fine patriot red white and blue.
The scene has evolved over the past 2 decades but he never changed.
He had a hardcore lets have a great time together attitude about himself and always brought the energy with him.
Skate or Die
Rest in peace

I remember getting my first real stick back around 72ish.
A Hot Dog board, real(!) Cadillac wheels, and Chicago trucks.

Saved all the money I earned for a long time and blew it all at Val Surf in seconds.
One of my best memories only next to getting my first G&S surfboard.
Great way to grow up!

I rode for 32 years until a massive concussion on top of many other incidents left me with epilepsy and on going memory loss.
But! had a hell of a time there were many many many sights that had been seen and so many wonderful experiences within that culture. For those who been around that long know exactly what i’m talking about.
The culture was anarchy. It consisted of Rich and poor, gay and straight, punks and patriots, skinheads and mods, goth and Christian, Chinese and Hispanics, the incredibly smart to the very stupid, law abiding to thugs. One thing is we all got along.

First stick was a Ron Allen/Tony Magnussin H STREET, slimeball wheels or Toxic can’t remember, Gullwing trucks, gmn German bearings, skully Bros hardware.
I still have a crap ton of old and new Thrasher, Big Brother, CCS catalogues and Transworlds I just can’t get rid of them.

Umm those GT performers were sweeeet
I will take one in White and a Trickstar in Pink

I learned about full body road rash on my first cheap skateboard. Literally a shaped board with metal skate wheels. Not much concrete, the steel wheels were better for asphalt pavement. So we were told. Not very good traction when you tried turning sharp. SLIDE and SPLAT.
Nice wide track and wide wheels would have been better I realized later.

None of the above is legal advice, ese. Nothing in these pinche posts are an admission of anything. All posts are the mere opinion of some dude named El Trollo and/or posted in jest for entertainment value. Think of abuelita before doing anything that might make you a criminal.

Yeah, those memories. For me it was around 1983 to 1993 that I can recall. Had a santa cruz deck and a Smidt Stix? Or something like that. And a powell perelta. Then they changed from the bigger decks to smaller ones that the tail looked like the front.

Always Independent trucks, slime ball wheels and Suicidal Tendencies of course.

I had the same board, there is a neighborhood in SW Houston that probably still has my dna on the streets from 45 years ago.
