Enough with the Bull Shit talk! I'm looking for a quality bolt action rifle to use for deer hunting in East Texas. I've decided I want .308 since I already have a .308 platform and ammo.
All I need is something adequate. I was thinking maybe a Savage with walnut wood and the accutrigger just not sure which model. I would like to spend no more than $500 for the rifle and maybe like $200-250 tops for a decent variable scope. Any ideas?
Savage Model 10 Trophy Hunter XP. Nice rifle with Accutrigger. Comes with Nikon 3-9 BDC scope. Best value. Period.

Take your pick. They're all good and should run you under $500 with a decent optic.

Just to add. You can get a really nice REM 700 for a couple hundred more. Id go with that option and have a few.
Don't expect a lot of wood options at that price point though.

I've heard great things about the ruger in .308 accuracy wise but it's more of a "do you want chocolate or vanilla" type thing.
OP, stay away from Remington and their poor quality control.

The Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa, if I remember correctly (I forget which model). Howa makes and excellent rifle......
